Future farmers: celebrating Cristo Rei resource centre's newest graduates

May 12, 2017

Over 100 people honoured the newest graduates of RAEBIA Timor-Leste’s agricultural internship in a ceremony in Metiaut last night, celebrating the students’ successful completion of two weeks of field work at RAEBIA’s Cristo Rei resource centre.

Hosted by the sixty students from the agricultural faculty Dili’s Universidade da Paz, the ceremony was attended by representatives from both RAEBIA and the university, local community members, and suco Metiaut’s chief, who commended the students on their work. A tais presentation preceded a certificate ceremony, which was followed by speeches and a shared meal.

Supported by US AID’s Avansa Agrikultura Project, RAEBIA’s Cristo Rei resource centre has been hosting student interns since 2015, training the next generation of Timor-Leste’s farmers in practical farming techniques, with a focus on techniques of conservation agriculture in a slope farming context.

With a vision of sustainable agriculture in the rural communities it works with, RAEBIA is investing in a new generation of farmers to ensure the continued protection and conservation of Timor-Leste’s agricultural land.

RAEBIA congratulates the graduating students and looks forward to welcoming a new group next month.
